First the good news for Welsh business. The most profitable companies in Wales are making more money. Last year, Insider’s Profit 50 reported a total surplus of £1.14bn. This year the 50 reported a total of £1.38bn. That’s a 21 per cent rise in earnings in a year.
I have a confession to make. I felt a twinge of sympathy for Stephen Hester, the Royal Bank of Scotland chief executive who was pressurised into giving up his share bonus.
