Edwin Booth doesn’t duck questions; the only ducking during our interview at Booths store in MediaCity was the unusual quacking ringtone from his phone. The 56 year-old is the fifth generation at the helm of the grocery retail chain EH Booth & Co, and as befits a man with a pilot’s licence, he’s well positioned to look down on the troubles at Tesco. Over Christmas, Tesco’s like-for-like UK sales were down 2.3 per cent – Booths were up 3.1 per cent.
