North West Power 100

North West Power 100

The balance of power is shifting as civic and business leaders battle it out. The fight is on

How the list is compiled

The Power 100 features the 100 most powerful individuals in the North West. The criteria set by Insider require that these indviduals all have influence over the economic, political and cultural life of the region. Not just good at their day jobs, they hold power behind the scenes of local government, in non-executive directorships and have the ear of key financiers in the City and of key individuals in central government.
Insider is a business magazine, so we're biased in favour of that community. That said, this year we've included some celebrities who we feel have an influence on the region's place on national and international stages, an influence generated through their potential to generate wealth, income and power for the North West.
To create the Power 100, we use intelligence gathered through the year by our editorial team, but have also used off-the-record debates and chats with the region's business communities, regional commentators and leading business figures to ascertain where power resides in the region and who's winning key fights.
A series of comment pieces scattered through the list draw together areas worthy of analysis and we've again kept the actual biographies brief and to the point.
The profiles have been written by Michael Taylor, Lisa Miles and Neil Tague. The comments pieces are by Lisa Miles (Liverpool), Neil Tague (property, the new Manchester establishment) and Michael Taylor.
