SIV to be connected by Contact Advance
Leisure operator Sheffield International Venues (SIV) has agreed a five-figure deal with Shipley-based telecommunications company Contact Advance to provide network services to employees across SIV’s venues. SIV, which employs more than 1,000 staff in Sheffield, operates 14 venues in the city including the Don Valley Stadium, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre and the English Institute of Sport.

Contract win for R & B
The Harrogate office of events, production and communication company R & B Group has won the contract to provide production services and technical support at the Yorkshire International Business Convention in June. The event will take place in Harrogate and speakers at the convention include Sir David Frost, entrepreneur Michelle Mone and actor Brian Blessed.

World Cup heroes to be celebrated at launch
Life Events, a newly-launched events management company based in Leeds, has revealed a World Cup 1966 Winners Dinner as its first function. The event will take place at Saviles Hall Armouries in Leeds on 21 May and feature guest appearances by Gordon Banks, Jack Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst.

Approval for Rotherham United FC site
A new community stadium for Rotherham United FC will be built after Rotherham Borough Council this week approved the purchase of a 10.8-acre site from Evans of Leeds. The stadium will be located next to the council’s own new civic office, which is currently under construction on the Guest & Chrimes site outside the town centre. The news is the latest development in the Rotherham Renaissance project following the recently-announced plans for redevelopment at the old civic location and Forge Island.

Merchant Gate to open
English Cities Fund’s (ECF) £140m Merchant Gate development in Wakefield will be unveiled this weekend. Merchant Gate features 35,000 sq ft of retail and leisure developments including restaurants, bars and retailers, 47,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, a multi-storey car park and 66 apartments. ECF produced the 17-acre mixed-use scheme in partnership with Muse Developments, Legal and General and the Homes and Communities Agency, with financial backing from Wakefield Metropolitan District Council and Yorkshire Forward.
