Radical approach will deliver growth, says Clegg
The government has outlined its plan for promoting economic growth across England in a bid to help those that have been hit hardest by the public spending cuts. Business secretary Vince Cable confirmed that two local enterprise partnerships in Yorkshire have been given the green light although three were rejected. Nick Clegg, the deputy Prime Minister and Sheffield Hallam MP, also launched the £1.4bn regional growth fund. Speaking to Insider, he described the government’s actions as “a radical new approach”.

AES seals a deal for Ceetak
Yorkshire-based AES Engineering has acquired Ceetak Engineering Group in a deal that will allow AES to form a new division. AES was advised by the corporate team of law firm Irwin Mitchell.

Humber LEP bids remain confident
Both Humber LEP bids have failed to win approval in the government's first wave of successful applicants. Leaders behind the North Bank bid said a "fractured business voice" was behind its failure, while Mark Kirk, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said he was still hopeful the government would consider the merits of a pan-Humber LEP.

Successful LEPs enter new era
Yorkshire's two successful LEP bids were both looking forward to a new era after receiving the go-ahead from government. James Newman, who spearheaded the private sector element of the Sheffield City Region bid, told Insider the focus would now be on the power handed to LEPs, while Tom Riordan said investment and jobs for the Leeds City Region was a "singular focus".

York & North Yorkshire LEP expects approval
Jonathan French, the executive manager of the York & North Yorkshire Partnership Unit LEP, has told Insider the bid has received informal advice it will be successful with some amendment. In particular, French said the bid needs to incorporate a greater level of private sector involvement to secure approval.

New Santander banking centre in Hull
Santander Corporate Banking is establishing a corporate business centre in Hull to support businesses in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire with a turnover in excess of £1m. The bank also announced three senior appointments at the centre – located on Paragon Street in Hull.

House prices rise in Yorkshire
House prices in Yorkshire & the Humber rose by 1.5 per cent in September, according to the Land Registry. The average price in Yorkshire was reported as £128,700 - lower than the England and Wales average of £166,769.
