Deals market recovering but mixed – Yorkshire Bank
The Yorkshire deals market is slowly recovering but remains mixed, according to Yorkshire Bank's Martin Ibbetson. Certain sectors, including manufacturing exporters and food production, were leading the way as the market picked up and Ibbetson told Insider he expected increased deal activity to continue after the surprise contraction of the economy in the fourth quarter of 2010.

EMIS sells up in Canada
EMIS, a Leeds-based healthcare software supplier, has disposed of loss-making Canadian subsidiary EMIS Inc for £250,000 to QHR Technologies.

Morrisons linked to Iceland move
Yorkshire supermarket giant Morrisons is one of several retailers reported to be weighing up an offer for Iceland Foods if the chance arises. The possibility of an auction for the frozen food business has been raised, with failed Icelandic bank Landsbanki poised to sell its majority stake.

B-Tek targets EDM market after formation
Newly-incorporated EDM sub-contract business B-Tek Precision Engineering is targeting the UK's aerospace, medical, oil and gas and motor sport industries. That's according to backer Tony Sitek who told Insider he acquired the assets of EDM business Pro-Spark and combined them with his own Ace Industrial to form B-Tek, which will be run by engineer Steve Batt.

Fenner has "very strong" half-year
Fenner has more than doubled pre-tax profits with revenue up 35 per cent in its half-year results, it reported this morning. The Hessle-based company, which manufactures conveyor-belting systems and advanced engineered products, said it had achieved a "very strong performance" in the six months to 28 February 2011.

Meaty profits for Crawshaw
Crawshaw Group has reported a 194 per cent leap in pre-tax profit for the year ended 31 January 2011. But the Rotherham-based butchers said it was cautious about the year ahead and warned the retail trading climate has become "more difficult".

Tourism boost as York pots tournament
York Barbican has secured the rights to host snooker's UK Championship this December. One of the biggest ranking tournament's in the sport's calendar, the UK Championship was held at the Barbican from 2001 to 2006.

New chairman at Getech
Getech has appointed a new chairman. The Leeds-based oil services business has confirmed that Stuart McNicol Paton will become its chairman and a non-executive director with immediate effect.

Plans for £46m regen project get thumbs up
Sheffield City Council has backed development plans which form part of a £46m regeneration scheme in Stocksbridge. The authority’s West and North Area Planning Board approved the application submitted by Stocksbridge Regeneration for a new testing facility for the town’s steelworks.

SDD relocates HQ
SDD Exhibitions has relocated to a 27,000 sq ft headquarters at Parkway Business Park in Sheffield. The change was brokered by property consultancy Knight Frank which also oversaw internal refurbishment work at the premises.
