Penning refuses to be drawn on £530m Northern Hub plans
Transport minister Mike Penning has revealed the government will look closely at Network Rail’s £530m Northern Hub proposals although he refused to be drawn on the level of support in Whitehall for the plans. Speaking to Insider, he said it was “very aware” of bottlenecks and problems with the rail infrastructure in the North, but added budgetary restraints would determine which projects receive financial backing.

Engage boosts healthcare arm with deal
Engage Mutual, the Harrogate-based life assurance provider, has acquired Provincial Hospital Services Association (PHSA), a not for profit healthcare provider based in the South East. The acquisition of PHSA will increase Engage's presence in the healthcare market and adds 13,000 new healthcare customers.

Tracsis boosts results after acquisition
Leeds-based Tracsis has boosted revenue following its acquisition of Loughborough-based Safety Information Systems. In its final year results ended 31 July 2010, the operational planning and software provider reported turnover of £2.65m - up from £2.31m last year.

Administrators seek buyer for Cosalt Leisure
Hull-based Custom Leisure Homes Limited which trades as Cosalt Leisure Homes has been placed into administration. After severe cash flow problems the company has ceased to trade with all 43 staff being made redundant. Begbies Traynor's Andrew Mackenzie and Ken Pattullo have been appointed as joint administrators and said they were in talks with interested parties.

Mandaric closes in on deal for Wednesday
Milan Mandaric is poised to reach a deal over the takeover of troubled Sheffield Wednesday. A spokesperson for the Sheffield club told Insider that both parties “hope to reach a positive conclusion by the weekend”. He confirmed that talks between the Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric and Sheffield Wednesday bosses were “ongoing”, but said that the situation at Sheffield was “complex”.

Profit doubles at MSI
Pre-tax profit at Doncaster-based engineering business MS International (MSI) has doubled to £2.6m in the six months to 30 October, compared to its first-half performance last year. Revenue rose by 40 per cent to £25.3m and MSI said activity levels had increased across the whole group.

Conference Leeds shakes hands on deal
Conference Leeds will host a conference for the British Association of Hand Therapists at the Carriageworks in Leeds next October. More than 120 delegates will attend the conference staged in a city which was ranked the fifth most popular destination for the corporate market in the British Meetings and Events Industry Survey 2009.
