Business is suffering because of price surge - Cotton
Bedding manufacturer John Cotton is suffering as a result of the surge in cotton prices, according to Mark Cotton, managing director of the £93m turnover Mirfield business. He told Insider the rise in price of cotton has created uncertainty as suppliers continue to increase their prices on a monthly basis.

Asda offers to sell 47 ex-Netto stores
Asda's £778m acquisition of 194 ex-Netto stores is close to being rubber-stamped by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), although the supermarket had to offer to sell 47 of the stores to allay industry watchdog's competition fears. Asda, which said this was at the high end of its expectations, expects the Netto stores to trade under Asda fascia by late summer 2011.

House of Townend acquires Playford Ros
House of Townend, based in Hull, has acquired Playford Ros, the North Yorkshire wine supplier. Playford Ros was placed in administration last summer. Under the new owner it will continue to supply wines to its corporate and private clients out of its base at Sowerby, near Thirsk.

1st Dental Laboratories suspends trading on AIM
Harrogate-based 1st Dental Laboratories has suspended trading of its shares on AIM and appointed an administrator while it clarifies the company's financial position. The suspension follows the realisation that revenues are expected to be well short of internal budgets.

Trading improves at Filtronic despite difficult conditions
Shipley-based Filtronic has told the Stock Exchange that conditions remain difficult, despite an improvement in its first quarter trading compared to the weak final quarter of last year. The manufacturer of microwave electronic products for wireless telecoms said sales were running at approximately £1m per month.

Screen Yorkshire to explore 3D
Screen Yorkshire will host a conference next month exploring the business of 3D and the impact it will have on games, TV, film and interactive media companies. The conference, 3D in Your Face, takes place at the National Media Museum in Bradford on 21 and 22 October.

"World class" plans in place - Hammerson
The revised Eastgate Quarters scheme could propel Leeds alongside Birmingham and Manchester as one of the retail capitals of the UK, according to its project director. Unveiling outline proposals for the one million sq ft development, Andrew Hilston of developer Hammerson told Insider that plans were in place for a “world class scheme”.

Full steam ahead at The Green
As The Green, the first BREEAM Outstanding rated student accommodation in the UK, schedules to open at Bradford University next year, developer Mi7 said the next four phases of the wider Listerhills Development were being planned. Managing director Mohammed Ishtiaq told Insider the idea for the sustainable scheme came from the university and its Ecoversity programme.

Sainsbury's to check in at St Paul's Place
Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is opening a retail outlet in St Paul's Place in Sheffield. Sainsbury's is taking 3,500 sq ft of the City Lofts Tower of the CTP St James development on a rent on £58,000 per annum.
