Riordan relishes “meaty” enterprise zone challenge

Tom Riordan has told Insider developing the enterprise zone allocated to the Leeds City Region Partnership in the Budget will be the LEP’s “first meaty issue to deal with”. Riordan, the chief officer of the LEP, was disappointed to miss out on other measures outlined by the Chancellor, but said “the key issue is the enterprise zone and we intend to take that forward with great anticipation”.

Billington swoops for Peter Marshall

Communities secretary Eric Pickles has vowed to ensure that the two enterprise zones in Yorkshire will boost economic growth and stimulate private sector employment. Speaking to Insider he said the zones - earmarked for areas in Leeds and Sheffield - would not simply be a rehash of Conservative policy from the 1980s.

Leeds Building Society pledges £1.4bn lending
