Ultralase eyes further growth
Fresh investment in 2010 has allowed Leeds-based eye surgery business Ultralase to get closer to its consumer base and broaden its product range. That's the view of chief executive Tony Veverka who told Insider the company was targeting further expansion in 2011 - its 20th anniversary year.

Clyde leaves AIM ahead of Schenck deal
Clyde Process Solutions (CPS) has cancelled trading on the AIM market as part of its £35m buyout by Schenck Process. The Doncaster business provides services such as pneumatic conveying and air filtration.

£1m refurb boost following San Carlo deal
Restaurant group San Carlo says it will invest £1m in the Leeds-based Flying Pizza venue. It comes after the Birmingham-based chain bought the critically acclaimed restaurant from administrator PKF for an undisclosed sum.

Profit and turnover leap at RSM Tenon
National advisory and accountancy service RSM Tenon has revealed a turnover increase of 65 per cent in the second half of 2010. The business, which has offices across Yorkshire, said underlying profits also climbed by 53 per cent over the six-month period. The firm said it was continuing to reap the benefit of its recent acquisitions.

Avacta clinches North American deal
York-based biotechnology business Avacta Group has signed a collaborative agreement covering the USA and Canada. The sales and marketing agreement is with the Port Washington-based Pall Corporation in the US.

Own label brands boost Asda sales
Asda has reported a rise in sales of 1.6 per cent in the fourth quarter. The Leeds-based supermarket giant attributed a rise in like-for-like sales to a strong performance with its own brand labels ahead of Christmas.

WYG in £1.27m South Africa contract win
Leeds-based WYG has won a €1.5m (£1.27m) contract which involves developing cooperation between the European Union (EU) and South Africa. The EU is funding the project which involves the multi-disciplinary consultancy.
