Further slump for Severfield-Rowen
Revenue at Severfield-Rowen, a structural steel company headquartered in Thirsk, fell by £83m to £267m in the year to 31 December 2010. The business said it expects relatively weak levels of activity to continue during 2011, despite having previously described 2010 as a "trough" year.

Hurst Transport shuts
Immingham-based road haulage company Hurst Transport has gone into administration after suffering "unsustainable losses". The business will be wound down and 79 redundancies have been made.

Villiers calls on leaders to support £32bn rail plans
Transport minister Theresa Villiers has urged business leaders in Yorkshire to make their voices heard if they want the government’s plan for a £32bn high-speed rail network to go ahead. She told Insider: “For years governments have tried to address the north/south divide, but this is going to provide the most effective way to deal with that than anything that’s been tried over the past half-century.”

Losses widen for Atlantic Global
Cleckheaton-based software business Atlantic Global has recorded pre-tax losses of £220,000 in its preliminary results for the year ended 31 December 2010. The company said it had been trading in "challenging market conditions" but the results are in line with the board's expectations.

WYG signs first Chinese agreement
Leeds-based consultancy WYG has signed its first mutual cooperation agreement with an engineering consultant group in Beijing. WYG said the deal with the Changjiang and Huanghe Corporation was part of its ongoing international growth strategy.

£4.3m contract add-on for Optare
Leeds-based bus manufacturer Optare has extended its contract with Greater Manchester PTE to include a further 22 hybrid buses. Valued at £4.3m, including Green Bus Fund support, the order is in addition to the 66 hybrids ordered in May 2010 by the passenger transport authority.
