Grant Thornton awaits return of deal market sweet spot
The Yorkshire deals market is waiting for its "sweet spot" in the £25m to £100m range to ignite and recent deals involving Zenith and Allied could be the catalyst. That’s according to Grant Thornton partner Will Oxley who told Insider the accountancy firm was recruiting new faces to take advantage of any recovery in the market.

Two-speed job market created by cuts, says report
Public sector cuts in Yorkshire have created a two-speed labour market, according to figures released by Totaljobs.com. Analysis of jobseeker activity in the region since the General Election in May highlighted that recruitment in the public sector dropped by 5 per cent, while the private sector recruitment activity grew by 9.5 per cent.

Retail sales grow, but Deloitte sounds warning
The volume of retail sales grew by 1.1 per cent in July, according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics. However, Deloitte believes this could be hiding the economy’s weakness.

B Braun Medical secures UK distribution rights
B Braun Medical, the Sheffield arm of the global healthcare company that manufactures healthcare products and equipment, has secured sole distribution rights to the UK market for the Quill SRS wound closure device. The company, which is based at Thorncliffe Park, said that the product had made major inroads in its North American market.

Acetech fined for asbestos failings
Marine reclamation company Acetech Construction has been fined £3,400 and ordered to pay costs of £5,000 for putting its employees at risk of potential asbestos exposure. The Barrow Haven-based business was found to have failed in carrying out an adequate inspection of a Polish fishing vessel it purchased in 2007.

Grontmij, the Dutch engineering consultancy with its UK headquarters in Leeds, has posted a fall in profit in the first half of 2010 after restructuring and acquisitions.

Industrial take-up on the rise in South Yorkshire - CBRE
Take-up of industrial and logistics property in South Yorkshire rose in the second quarter of 2010 to 1.6 million sq ft, part of the highest national levels of take-up since the final quarter of 2007. That’s according to a report by property consultancy CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) which said the take-up reflected an improving sentiment among occupiers of logistics property.
