CBI chief has "bowled members over" with vision - Palmer
Andrew Palmer, the CBI's regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber, has hailed the organisation's decision to appoint John Cridland as director-general. Palmer told Insider that Cridland, who is a regular visitor to Yorkshire, had "bowled members over" with his plans for the CBI and was a powerful lobbying voice for business.

The fund management business owned by Leeds-headquartered Rensburg Sheppards is to be sold to Franklin Templeton for £45m. South African bank Investec confirmed the sale in a statement to the Stock Exchange.

Jobs to go as Communisis looks for savings
Marketing services provider Communisis is to cut jobs and consolidate its logistics capacity in order to focus investment in high growth areas identified by its strategic review earlier this year. The Leeds-based company said it would consolidate logistics capacity into its Newcastle site, with the consequent closure of its Leicester facility. Senior management and other head-office functions would be reorganised, leading to a reduced headcount.

Solar business to create 300 jobs in Barnsley
South Yorkshire solar power business Nationwide Solar and its sister company A Shade Greener intend to create 300 jobs in the New Year. The Tankersley-based business, which has been helped by Enterprising Barnsley, said it was expanding to cope with increased demand.

Balfour Beatty buys parts of Rok
Infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has acquired segments of Rok's affordable housing and general construction division for £7m, of which £4m has been paid in cash.

York Handmade wins £500,000 contract
York Handmade Brick Company has won a contract to supply more than 400,000 bricks to a school in Manchester. The order, the largest in the company's 22-year history, is worth £500,000 and the business has taken on four new staff to cope with the extra work.

Trio of occupiers in at Wards Exchange
JF Finnegan’s has secured a trio of tenants for its mixed-use Wards Exchange scheme on the former brewery site on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield. A new Wetherspoons pub has been joined at the development by dental practice Oasis Dental Care, which has unveiled a £500,000 five-surgery practice, and interior fit-out company Domino Interiors has created a flagship 3,400 sq ft showroom.

Mori Seiki opens office at AMP Technology Centre
Mori Seiki, a manufacturer of metal cutting machines, has opened an office at the AMP Technology Centre on the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham. The facility will provide a base for Mori Seiki’s support of the Strategic Affordable Manufacturing in the UK with Leading Environmental Technology (SAMULET) project.
