Poundworld targets £200m turnover
Yorkshire-based Poundworld Retail is targeting turnover of £200m by March 2012 as footfall in its stores increases. Well maintained shops in the right locations is driving the discount retailer's success, according to marketing manager Martyn Birks, who told Insider the business was on track to achieve its target of operating 150 stores by the end of 2011.

Greencore still chasing Northern - reports
Greencore is still eyeing a deal with Leeds-based Northern Foods, according to reports. The Irish company is said to have been in discussions with private equity groups over the past fortnight and is expected to make a move with an unnamed partner.

Wildcats deal completes
Spirit of 1873, the investment vehicle formed by Yorkshire entrepreneur Andrew Glover, has completed the acquisition of Super League club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats from joint administrators Peter O’Hara and Simon Weir of O’Hara & Co.

Four Humber CCS bids for EU cash
Carbon capture storage (CCS) projects in the Humber have accounted for four of the 14 UK applications bidding for funding from the European Union’s New Entrant Reserve scheme. The fund is worth between €4.5bn (£3.8bn) and €9bn (£7.6bn) to support CCS and renewable projects across the EU.
