Loss at The Weather Lottery as disputes rain in
Contractual wrangles with football clubs signed up to its FC Betz brand has led to The Weather Lottery reporting a first-half pre-tax loss of £321,000 on turnover of £668,000. The Doncaster-based business, which this morning (15 April) said it had acquired Soccerdome in a £375,000 deal, is also awaiting the outcome of a fraud case against former managing director Keith Milhench and one other ex-employee, Amie Pickersgill-Smith, accused of defrauding the company of £80,000.

Technophobia bought by Capita
Sheffield-based Technophobia has been acquired by outsourcing company Capita. Technophobia will become part of Capita’s IT services division but retain its own distinct identity and remain as a standalone business entity.

VR to expand after Finance Yorkshire loan
VR Software is eyeing international expansion after securing a business loan investment from Finance Yorkshire. The Boroughbridge-based business, which produces online visual tools for retailers, reported 18 per cent year on year growth in 2010.

Avacta revenue up, losses cut
York-based biotechnology business Avacta Group has posted a £597,000 pre-tax loss for the six months to 31 January 2011. The figure is down on last year's equivalent pre-tax loss of £1.19m. The business said it has made "excellent commercial progress" with revenue up 12 per cent in the period to £1m.

Renew fine reduced on appeal
Renew Holdings has told the Stock Exchange an Office of Fair Trading fine has been reduced on appeal from £3.5m to £926,250.

Work starts on £7m Meadowhall project
Work has started on a £7m redevelopment of the Oasis food court at Meadowhall in Sheffield. Owner British Land said the work would create a 61,000 sq ft space due to be completed by October 2011.
