Rhinos look to benefit from "golden era"

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has told Insider the Super League club is enjoying a golden era, with excellent results both on and off the field. As the Rhinos bid for a fourth consecutive Grand Final triumph, Hetherington is hoping to build on this success, and that of the wider business, by attracting more corporate partners at a time when a new £10m development programme is getting underway at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Revenue depressed at Cosalt
Cosalt has told the Stock Exchange that its revenue has been affected by challenging trading conditions in its principal areas of activity. However, the Grimsby-headquartered provider of safety equipment and services to the offshore oil and gas sector highlighted the progress it had made in a number of other key areas, including the creation of a joint venture in the renewable sector with APRO.

Small business stats rocket in Sheffield
The number of small business entrepreneurs in Sheffield has grown 204 per cent in the past five years, according to new research published by information services company Experian. A total of 2,012 micro businesses were registered in 2005 and this figure has now risen to 6,118.

Six new associates at Lupton Fawcett
Commercial law firm Lupton Fawcett has promoted six members of staff to associate. Four solicitors and two administrators have been promoted to the role at the Leeds firm.

Record-breaking year at Doncaster Racecourse
Doncaster Racecourse has reported its most successful Ladbrokes St Leger Festival of modern times with record-breaking attendance and a strong return on its corporate hospitality takings. Across the four days of racing 70,000 people attended the course giving an average daily gate of 17,000 – 15 per cent up on last year.

Origami conference returns to the fold
York & Scarborough Conferences hosted the British Origami Society autumn conference last weekend, as the event returned to York after seven years. The conference was held at York St John University and more than 100 artists attended.

Yorkshire hotels enjoy good start to summer
Hotels in Yorkshire experienced a good start to the summer holiday season with an increase in demand for rooms during July, according to monthly figures released by PKF Hotel Consultancy Services. Occupancy rates were up in Sheffield, Leeds and York compared with 2009, although average room rates in Sheffield dropped by 8.6 per cent.

The New Ellington set to open
Boutique hotel The New Ellington will open its doors on 20 September under new ownership. Now owned by Bespoke Hotels, the hotel is set to reopen after an 18-month closure and overhaul. The owners of its predecessor, the Ellington, went into administration last year.

Langleys hires Cross
York-based law firm Langleys has appointed Tim Cross to head its real estate division. Cross leaves his role as director and head of commercial property at law firm Lupton Fawcett, where he was also a member of the management and strategy boards.
