Full steam ahead for airport rail link plans
Leeds Bradford Airport chief executive John Parkin has told Insider there is “real momentum” behind plans to build a rail link to the airport. Surface access to the airport, near Yeadon, is often cited as a reason that Yorkshire travellers cross the Pennines to use Manchester Airport instead - something Parkin referred to as “a habit we need to shift”.

Wildcats snapped up
The Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been bought out of administration. Businessman Andrew Glover has bought the Super League club from administrator O'Hara's through his company Spirit of 1873.

Optare in £7.4m share placing
Leeds bus manufacturer Optare is aiming to raise £7.4m through the issue of 370 million new ordinary shares at 2p each. The company said it is in the "advanced stages" of the placing involving institutional and other investors. It said the placing will fund the relocation of the company's Leeds factory, provide working capital and reduce borrowings.

Alexander vows to support public sector-dependent areas
Danny Alexander, the chief secretary to the Treasury, has dismissed speculation that the £1.4bn Regional Growth Fund (RGF) will favour some English regions above others. But in an exclusive interview with Insider, he admitted that areas with a large public sector presence would be heavily supported. He also cooled talk that more money will be added to the fund and spoke passionately in support of the government's apprenticeship drive.

SI in $2.2m American deal
Leeds-based medical devices manufacturer Surgical Innovations has signed a four-year contract with US-based Mediflex Surgical Products. The deal, worth at least $2.2m (£1.37m), will involve the distribution of its YelloPort+plus surgical tray product in the US.

Yorkshire Bank offers small business service
Yorkshire Bank is to offer free banking services to start-ups and companies that switch their accounts. The bank, along with Clydesdale Bank, have also launched a new small business service.

Contract wins drive expansion at S&B
S&B Utilities, a North Yorkshire civil engineering and construction business, is investing £1m in an expansion plan. It comes after the business won contracts worth £4m.

Rapid rise for factory costs
Factory costs have risen at their fastest level in more than two years, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Material and fuel prices paid by UK manufacturers shot up 13.4 per cent from January 2010.
