TV is attracting kids to business – Apprentice star

Shows such as The Apprentice and Dragons’ Den are attracting increasing numbers of students and young people to a career in business. That’s according to The Apprentice finalist Claire Young who is supporting Umph! - a competition aimed at budding entrepreneurs, set to be piloted in Yorkshire. Young, who told Insider her straight-talking Yorkshire approach has helped drive her successful career, has set up www.schoolspeakers.co.uk which brings inspirational speakers into schools.

Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership is looking ahead to the next round of the Regional Growth Fund after four bids from the region secured funding from the £1.4bn pot in round one. Chairman Neil McLean said the LEP was well-placed to support programmes that would drive growth.

Hallmark adds to portfolio
Hallmark Hotels has acquired Croydon-based Aerodrome Hotel in a deal backed by Palatine Private Equity. Palatine, formerly known as Zeus Private Equity, established Leeds-based Hallmark Hotels Group in October 2007 with the aim of acquiring underperforming three-star hotels and converting them into four-star luxury hotels.

CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) and Countrywide have entered an agreement to combine resources for the commercial and residential property markets. Countrywide has a large Yorkshire presence and CBRE said it would strengthen its position in residential markets in the region.

DLA climbs graduate employer list
DLA Piper, the law firm with offices in Sheffield and Leeds, has been awarded 64th place in this year's Times Top 100 Graduate Employers rankings, climbing 20 places. DLA is one of only ten law firms to feature in the listing and the only one outside of London.

UK inflation falls
The annual rate of inflation has fallen to 4 per cent, down from 4.4 per cent in February, using the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) measure.
