Forgemasters and McCabe winners at China Business Awards

Sheffield Forgemasters was last night honoured for the growing significance of its links with China at the Yorkshire and Humber China Business Awards. The £120m turnover company, which now exports 30 per cent of its products into China, won the Best China Business Award at the awards dinner at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane ground. The football club itself was also shortlisted for the main award. The Scarborough Group, run by Blades chairman Kevin McCabe, has significant leisure interests in China including a controlling stake in the Chinese football club Chengdu Blades. McCabe, who recently topped Insider’s Yorkshire Power List, was also honoured at the dinner with an international fellowship award for his outstanding contribution to building business and sporting relations between China and Britain. Elsewhere, Sheffield Hallam University won the Best China Education Links award while the Big Word Group won the best China newcomer award. For a full review of the awards, sponsored by DLA Piper and supported by Insider, see next month’s issue of Yorkshire Business Insider.
