Leeds office block extension spared

An injunction which would have led to part of a 90,000 sq ft central Leeds office block being pulled down has been lifted, Insider has learnt. Leeds-based law firm Pinsent Masons confirmed the news to Insider as it spoke about its role in the Toronto Square 'right to light' battle after acting on behalf of property owner Marcus Heaney, of Aspire. Heaney challenged developer Highcross, which added two extra floors to the grade A office development in Leeds over its impact on light levels.

Strata to strengthen in 2011
Doncaster-headquartered housebuilder Strata has recorded a pre-tax profit of £1.8m for 2010/11. The company said it expects to strengthen its position in the market and sell upwards of 400 houses in the coming year.

DePuy ordered to pay £4.8m
The Serious Fraud Office has obtained a civil recovery order against Leeds-based DePuy International Limited. It said the company will pay £4.829m, plus prosecution costs, in recognition of "unlawful conduct relating to the sale of orthopaedic products in Greece between 1998 and 2006".

Boparan becomes Northern Foods chairman
Ranjit Boparan has become the non-executive chairman of Leeds-based Northern Foods following his £342m takeover of the food manufacturer. It is one of several changes made to the board, which was announced to the Stock Exchange.

Long-serving partners leave JWPCreers
Two long-serving partners have retired from York-based JWPCreers Chartered Accountants. John Latimer and David Ingall have stepped down after serving as partners for 38 years and 32 years respectively. It comes as the business revealed it is converting to limited liability partnership (LLP) status.
