Tough conditions in opportunistic market, says leading dealmaker
The deals market remains tough for Yorkshire due to a lack of bank lending with most deals involving the "opportunistic" purchase of assets from struggling companies. That's according to John Hamer, the head of the corporate team at Leeds-based law firm Walker Morris, who told Insider that owners of "quality businesses" remain reluctant to sell up for fear of not getting the "best price".

2Co Energy acquires CCS project
Powerfuel's carbon capture and storage (CCS) business has been sold to London-based 2Co Energy. The company said it will develop the CCS project at Hatfield in South Yorkshire and will put in place a financial guarantee so a €180m (£158.3m) grant from the European Commission will be drawn down.

Tata to invest £1.2m in Scunthorpe plant
Tata Steel is investing £1.2m in two machines at its wire rod rolling mill in Scunthorpe in a bid to increase quality and efficiency. The steelmaking giant said the machines would also boost production of the most technically demanding steels.

Tsunami hits Pace profits

£14.4m property deal clinched
Legal & General has bought 1 Whitehall Quay in Leeds from Danmerc for £14.4m, reflecting a net initial yield of 7.88 per cent. According to Jones Lang LaSalle, which acted on behalf of Legal & General, this is the "largest multi-let office investment transaction in Leeds in the last year".
