Greencore bows out of Northern race
Irish food group Greencore has revealed it is bowing out of the takeover battle for Leeds-based Northern Foods leaving the path clear for Harry Ramsden's owner Ranjit Boparan. Greencore said it had explored obtaining funding to acquire the parts of the Northern Foods branded business with what it described as the "greatest synergy potential". However, it has now decided not to proceed with this course of action.

Yorkshire's digital and technology talent celebrated
The cream of the region’s marketing, web design and IT community came together last night for Insider's 11th Yorkshire Digital & Technology Awards. Among the big winners was Leeds-based digital agency Numiko, which picked up two awards for Best Business-to-Consumer Website and Best Web Design Team.

Profits and revenue down at Johnston as Fry leaves
Johnston Press, which owns the Yorkshire Post, Yorkshire Evening Post and Sheffield Star, has posted a fall in revenue and profit for the year to 1 January 2011. Its chief executive John Fry also announced his plans to leave the business by March 2012. The company also said it had a "weaker start to 2011 than anticipated".
