Insider's February Deal of the Month unveiled
The all-Yorkshire acquisition of engineering business Amalgamated Construction is Insider’s Deal of the Month for February. The business, part of Amco Group, was acquired by AIM-listed engineering and construction services contractor Renew for £19.8m.

£775m research funding unveiled
A total of £775m is to be made available for research to help boost the NHS, the government has announced today (7 March 2011). The funding, to be made available over five years, aims to "secure the UK as a world leader in life sciences".

Hammond disappointed by number of transport RGF bids
The number of bids submitted to the government’s £1.4bn Regional Growth Fund (RGF) for transport projects has been “disappointing”, transport secretary Philip Hammond has told Insider.

Printing firm invests £130,000
Platinum Print, a printing and mailing company based in Harrogate, has invested £130,000 in the business with the purchase of a mailing machine. The business, which also intends to recruit three members of staff, said it had now invested more than £180,000 in the last 12 months.

Marks & Clerk to shut in Leeds
The Leeds office of law firm Marks & Clerk is to close with the business consolidating its North of England offering in Manchester. Mark Kenrick, managing partner of the firm's Manchester office, told Insider the intention was for staff at the Leeds office to work at the consolidated office.

Access Intelligence posts pre-tax loss
York-based computer services business Access Intelligence made a pre-tax loss of £1.55m for the year ended 30 November 2010, it revealed this morning in its preliminary results. But turnover was up 38 per cent from £5.77m to £7.97m.

Profit rise continues for Fenner
Hessle-based industrial engineering business Fenner has said the "sharp increase in profitability" experienced in its first quarter has been maintained to the half-year end.

New car sales dropped by 7.7 per cent in February to 63,424 vehicles, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
