McLean scoops top property award

Neil McLean has been crowned Property Personality of the Year at the Yorkshire Property Awards, held last night at the Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate. The awards, organised by the Variety Club, recognised the standout achievers from the Yorkshire property sector. McLean, office managing partner of DLA Piper in Leeds and chairman of the Leeds City Region local enterprise partnership, collected his award in front of an audience of just under 800 people.

Syntopix swoops for skin centre
Syntopix has announced plans to buy the Leeds Skin Centre for Applied Research for £900,000. The Bradford-based speciality pharmaceutical research and development company is also raising £2m through the issue of 50 million ordinary shares at 4 pence per share.

IoD chief calls for investment help
The government needs to act to help businesses seeking investment. That's the view of Miles Templeman, the director general of the Institute of Directors (IoD), who spoke to Insider. He said: "If the government wants UK businesses to compete on the world stage, it needs to give more assistance to businesses in need of funding.

York to host travel conference
