Icona completes funding round
University of Leeds spin-out Icona, whose technology is used by the likes of Chrysler, Porsche and Bentley, has completed a £550,000 financing round. The funding will allow the advanced software developer to open a division in the North East.

Aesica expands into Europe with UCB deal
LDC-backed Aesica Pharmaceuticals has acquired three manufacturing sites in Germany and Italy from biopharma company UCB. Aesica was formed in September 2004 through a management buyout of a former BASF site in Northumberland, backed by LDC in Yorkshire.

Carlin acquires nursery out of administration
Honley Day Care, the trading name of Jones Day Care Nurseries which went into administration in February, has been acquired by Carlin Nurseries.

Sky unveils Sheffield plans
Sky is to base its Sheffield customer service centre at Ventana House - part of the Sheffield Digital Campus. The media organisation will occupy 23,577 sq ft at Ventana House and expects to create 500 jobs at the centre.

Deals secured at Allerthorpe after refinancing
Allerthorpe Business Park near Pocklington has agreed deals with three new owner occupiers and secured a fourth on a new lease after London & Pocklington, the park's owner, refinanced with Santander Bank.

Northern Hub is ‘top priority’ – Higgins
Network Rail’s newly appointed chief executive David Higgins has told the House of Commons' Transport Committee that the £530m Northern Hub proposals are the company’s “top priority”. Higgins, who took over at Network Rail last month, said the plans were “absolutely essential” to economic growth in the North of England.

IPF reports record profit
Leeds-based International Personal Finance reported a record profit for 2010 this morning. In its annual results for the year to 31 December 2010, it reported a pre-tax profit rise of 49.3 per cent to £92.1m which it said was due to "good growth, lower impairment and tight cost control".

Cape back in black
Energy services business Cape, which has its regional headquarters in Wakefield, has returned to profit thanks to its performance in the Far East and Pacific Rim region, it said this morning. Net debt has also been slashed from £113.6m to £52.9m.

Belgravium slashes debt and boosts profit
Bradford-based Belgravium Technologies has posted a 7 per cent rise in pre-tax profit for 2010 to £432,000 and a drop in net debt from £1.42m to £264,000. But the mobile data capture system designer and supplier suffered a slight drop in revenue from £8.29m in 2009 to £8.2m in 2010.
