Warburtons warms to Brace's bid
Warburtons, the baker, has agreed to open talks with Welsh rival Brace’s over Warburtons’ threatened South Wales bakery. Brace’s, which is based in Crumlin in the Ebbw Valley, expressed an interest in buying the Rogerstone site after Warburton started consulting staff about closure. After an initial delay, Insider understands that Warburtons, based in Bolton, will talk to Brace’s.

Directors buy RL Edwards from administration
RL Edwards, a law firm with three offices in South Wales, has been bought out of administration by two of its directors. Madeline Rand and Emma Hardwidge acquired the Bridgend firm, which will be renamed RLE Law, from administrator Grant Thornton.

Green logic behind courier's deal on wheels
Cardiff Cycle Couriers (CCC) has merged with Priority Express, the international courier services business. Pontcanna-based CCC was set up five years ago by John Higgins and Richard Lansdown.

Vandals force Alzeim into Brecon move
Alzeim, a Mid Wales company which uses daffodils to make pharmaceuticals, is moving to new premises in Brecon after being forced out of its first home by thieves and vandals. The company, which has raised £200,000 from Finance Wales, is about to start producing a treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease.

EKF wins in Peru and sets up rewards
EKF Diagnostics Holdings, the medical test company run by biotech entrepreneur Julian Baines, has won an order worth about £850,000 from the Ministry of Health in Peru for a blood test instrument. The company has also issued options over shares equivalent to 12 per cent of the company’s capital to chief executive Baines and executive chairman David Evans.

Dysport gives Ipsen a boost
Ipsen Biopharm's revenue and pre-tax profit rocketed in the year to 31 December 2009 as a result of a 65 per cent increase in sales of its Dysport neuromuscular treatment and the successful conclusion of a royalty dispute with Bayer Healthcare.

Exopack doubles pre-tax profit
Wrexham-based Exopack Advanced Coatings has doubled its pre-tax profit for the year to 31 December 2009, up to £2.7m from £1.31m in the previous year. But revenue at the manufacturer of coated papers and films was slightly down at £21m.

TRW to close Neath Valley plant
TRW Automotive, the car parts maker, plans to close its factory at Resolven in the Neath Valley, blaming excess capacity in its European operations.
