S4C cuts to hit production companies
S4C has reportedly notified more than 30 Welsh TV production companies about programming cuts it will have to implement because of a 25 per cent reduction in its £100m annual budget. The station has reacted furiously to the UK government's decision to pass control of its funding to the BBC, a move labelled "deeply offensive" by the Welsh Language Board.

Jones attacks government cuts
Deputy first minister and economy minister Ieuan Wyn Jones has issued a warning over proposed public sector cuts. According to the minister, cutting "runs the risk of wrecking our prospects of recovery".

Pure Wafer posts "disappointing" results
Difficult market conditions have resulted in "disappointing" results at Pure Wafer, the computer chip recycling company based in Swansea, which posted a pre-tax loss of $8m for the year to 30 June. The business said the industry is still struggling to recover from the worst downturn ever experienced in the semiconductor industry and the lasting effects of the worldwide economic recession.

Court-Johnston takes over at Peter’s
Caerphilly-headquartered Peter's Food Service has appointed Neil Court-Johnston as managing director of its food service division. Court-Johnston left Lancashire-based Holland’s Pies in acrimonious circumstances earlier this year.

Administrators expect Southern Care interest
Joint administrators from accountancy firm PKF have said they expect “substantial interest” in the Southern Care Group, which operates nine care homes in North Wales. The company employs 270 people and cares for up to 300 elderly people.

Micross IT opens in west Wales
Cardiff-based technology provider Micross IT has opened a new office in Y Llwyfan, Carmarthen, in a bid to reinforce the company’s presence in West Wales and serve its growing client base in this region. The new office will be managed by Micross IT’s Aled Gibbon.

Stride completes Newport Sainsbury’s
Bristol-headquartered architectural firm Stride Treglown Architects has announced the completion and opening opening of a new Sainsbury’s store in Crindau, Newport. The store, which replaces the existing Sainsbury’s store just a short distance away, occupies a former British Gas works site and is part of a wider regeneration strategy.

Moneypenny to expand in Wrexham
Moneypenny, the telephone answering and outsourced reception services, is to expand its Wrexham headquarters after acquiring additional land and permission for a new office development. The expansion will involve the construction of approximately 8,000 sq ft of additional space at Wrexham Technology Park.

Jehu wins £2.3m contract
Bridgend-based Jehu has won a £2.3m factory construction contract in the South West of England. It will build a new facility for Warminister-based leather glove manufacturer Dents.
