Chromogenex raises expansion cash
Chromogenex Technologies, the Llanelli-based laser beauty treatment company, has raised £1.5m from Finance Wales and the Assembly Government. Chromogenex, which gave up an Aim listing in 2009, will use the cash to expand into new markets and meet increased demand.

Recovery boosts Control Techniques profits
Rocketing sales at Control Techniques Drives has fuelled a 138 per cent increase in pre-tax profit to £21.7m. Turnover at the Newtown, Powys variable speed drives company increased by 40 per cent to £97m in the year to 30 September 2010.

Brace's optimistic despite turnover dip
A decline in the bread market is said to have led to a dip in turnover to £30.5m at Newbridge-based Brace's Bakery during the year to 30 September 2010, from £33m the year before. Pre-tax profit at the business also fell - to £721,000 from £920,000 in 2009 - but Brace's said it was "well-placed" for the future.

CBI calls for manufacturing growth support
Manufacturers look set to take on extra labour to cope with increased demand, according to a report by CBI Wales. The organisation called on the Welsh Assembly Government and banks to support the sector as it moves into a period of growth.

The Liberal Democrats have pledged to promote scientific innovation and employment through a pooled research budget if elected in Wales in May. The party also promised a detailed manufacturing support strategy, a “one in, one out rule” for new regulations and reform of business rates.
