Rose backs tough action on environment
Former Marks & Spencer executive chairman Sir Stuart Rose last night said policies like the Welsh Assembly Government’s planned 5p charge for carrier bags are needed to help the world avoid environmental disaster. Speaking at a Cardiff Business Club dinner, he said: “The government should do something about plastic bags. Plastic bags do terrible things.” His words appeared to put him at odds with the British Retail Consortium, which has described the Assembly Government’s plan to introduce charges for bags from October 2011 as “wrong”.

Finsbury in egg scare talks with insurer
Finsbury Food Group, the Cardiff-based baker, has reported a challenging start to the year, due in part to the toxic egg scare which prompted retailers to take its cakes from their shelves. Finsbury said its insurer had challenged recovery of withdrawal costs because no public health risk had been involved.

Capital Law takes former Peacocks office
Capital Law, the legal services group, has signed a 12 year letting with Bailey Hodge Investments on a Cardiff office previously occupied by Peacocks, the retailer. Capital Law plans to move from its Caspian Point base in Cardiff Bay to the 20,000 sq ft Atlantic House East in May.
