Hollins sets up Freshwater rival
Jon Hollins, the former creative director of public relations group Freshwater UK, has set up a rival agency, Freshbaked PR. Hollins left Freshwater around the time the group bought Cardiff PR firm Merlin. Hollins is now managing director of Freshbaked PR, a new arm of Cardiffs Freshbaked business services group.

Guardian raises £5m
Guardian Global Technology, an oil technology company based in Pyle, has raised £5m from private equity house Epi-V. Guardian, run by engineers Iain Maxted and Suzannah Bourne, will give Epi-V a 44 per cent stake. Following the investment the company will focus on increasing market penetration, commercialisation of its product portfolio and further technology development.
ET comes home
Entrepreneur Mervyn Ham and his wife Michelle have acquired precision engineering company ET Equipments from its US parent. ET, based in Cwmfelinfach, near Caerphilly, makes parts for silicon chip making equipment. Ham bought the firm from Aviza Technologies in a deal backed by HSBC, Finance Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government.
Broadband firm wins funds
Finance Wales has taken a minority stake in Epitiro, which develops software to measure the effectiveness of broadband services and related technologies. The company, which also has operations in Australia and New Zealand, has its European headquarters in Cardiff.

Moneysupermarket.com optimistic
Moneysupermarket.com, the price comparison website operator, is confident that it will hit its financial targets for the year after revealing a 30 per cent year on year increase in revenue for the first quarter of 2008. The North Wales company said that growth rates were strong as it entered the second quarter, with visitor numbers to the companys main website up by 15 per cent.
Acorn hatches IT division
Recruitment agency Acorn has launched a business division to capitalise on the growth of the UKs IT sector. The company has appointed David Sadler, who has five years of experience in the IT recruitment industry, to head the new division which is based at Acorns Newport headquarters. The IT division will provide a permanent and contract recruitment service to the IT sector throughout the UK and compliments a range of specialist sectors that operates under the Acorn umbrella.
Maelor renames
Maelor, the specialist hospital medicines group, has changed its name to IS Pharma and consolidated its share capital. The North Wales company will trade under the new name from next week.

Lovell lands home deals
Cardiff-based housing developer Lovell has won three contracts worth more than £12m. The deals will see a total of 141 new homes and a community centre built for local housing associations in south Wales. The firm has also begun work on a £4.7m scheme at the former Panasonic site at Pentwyn, Cardiff, to provide 64 new houses and apartments for Linc-Cymru Housing Association.

Rees lightning at Savills
Property advisor Savills has appointed Richard Rees as the head of its western region, which includes the Cardiff office. Rees joined Savills in 1989 and has been joint head of the Bristol office since it opened eight years ago. He has also been a main board director of the land and property division of Savills for three years. He takes over from William Donger, who will now head residential investment in London after eight years in the role.
New HR people for Capital
Capital HR, the human resources consultancy owned by Capital Law, has recruited specialists Ruth Blackwell and Pam Tod from rival consultancy Blue Apple. Ruth Blackwell was director of human resource services at Blue Apple and Tod was a consultant at the firm.
