Cassidian eyes civil market with acquisition
Cassidian, the defence technology company, has acquired internet security specialist Regency IT Consulting as it looks for growth in civilian markets. Cassidian, based in Newport, is a division of EADS, the European defence and aerospace group, and recently changed its name from EADS Defence & Security.

NHC posts loss after buy backfires
Niagra Healthcare (NHC) has posted a pre-tax loss following the unexpectedly poor performance of its 2007 acquisition Balance Master. The pre-tax loss was £337,649 for the year to 31 December 2009. The Denbigh-headquartered business said it had included an exceptional provision of £461,040 within its accounts to allow for Balance Master’s difficulties.

Production progress gives Amerisur cash boost
Amerisur, the Cardiff-based oil and gas company, has enjoyed improved cash flow after making progress with production in South America.

Beer and water sponsors refresh Scarlets
The Scarlets regional rugby team have signed a sponsorship agreement with brewer Molson Coors which will see the Worthington’s brand displayed on shirts for the next three years. The side have also signed a deal with Pembrokeshire-based Princes Gate, the mineral water maker.

Fingers crossed for Cross Hands plans
Developer George LB has submitted roposals for a mixed-use development in Cross Hands, near Ammanford, to Carmarthenshire County Council. Plans for new shops, houses and community facilities were submitted by property consultancy Savills on behalf of George.

Jones Bros heads for Swansea
Ruthin-headquartered Jones Bros Civil Engineering has expanded into south west Wales by opening an office in Swansea Enterprise Park. The move comes after Jones opened a Scottish office in January.

Welcome Furniture takes Cibyn warehouse unit
Richard Hayward Properties has let a 10,600 sq ft warehouse unit at Cibyn Industrial Estate in Caernarvon to Welcome Furniture. The furniture manufacturer has agreed a three-year lease at a rent of £17,500.

Goldsworthy leaves Midas for new venture
Simon Goldsworthy, the founder and managing partner of personnel consultancy Midas People Management, has left to set up another human resources business, Oriole. Goldsworthy will also work as business development director for Intapeople, the recruitment agency based in Cardiff.
