Finance Wales extends its reach to Manchester and Liverpool
Finance Wales has extended its reach in England by joining a £185m investment fund for the North West. The Assembly Government’s investment subsidiary was yesterday named as the manager of the European-backed North West Fund’s £35m business loan fund. Finance Wales told Insider it would open offices in Liverpool and Manchester through its FW Capital subsidiary. Back in Wales, Finance Wales has just backed a buyout at Denbe Western, an events and exhibitions business.

BAS bought for £4.4m
Pembroke-based manufacturing business BAS Components has been sold to PSM International Holdings for £4.4m by parent company TT electronics.

John gets control nailed at Riverside
Riverside Hardware, a retailer in Bridgend, has come under the control of entrepreneur Russell John. He will work with new managing director Ryan Woodbridge at the company, which has naming rights to Bridgend’s Brewery Field.

Warburtons to sell bakery to Brace's
Brace’s, the South Wales bread maker, is to buy the former Warburtons bakery in Rogerstone near Newport. Brace’s made a move for the plant after Warburtons announced plans to close it, putting over 100 jobs there at risk.

CH Bailey sees upturn after posting a loss
Newport-based leisure and engineering business CH Bailey has posted a pre-tax loss of £707,504 in the six months to 30 September, despite a 7 per cent increase in revenue to £2.4m during the period.

South West universities come together
Swansea Metropolitan University and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David have agreed in principle to merge.

GTFM tunes in to Assembly Government backing
The Welsh Assembly Government has provided £94,000 to a Valleys radio station to help it keep broadcasting and generate more marketing revenue. It backed GTFM, the only full-time station in Rhondda Cynon Taf, through its Communities First scheme.

Coastal defence project granted £6.5m
Work is expected to start on the first phase of a coastal protection scheme along the Borth to Ynyslas coastline in Ceredigion after a grant of £6.5m from the Welsh Assembly Government was approved.
