Student homes help Watkin Jones sales surge
The resilience of the UK's student accommodation sector was a major driver behind a £46m leap in sales at builder Watkin Jones Group. The Bangor-based construction business posted revenue of £142m for the year to 30 September 2010 - up from £96m in 2009. Student accommodation represented about three quarters of its turnover. Watkin Jones said it had an "excellent pipeline" of development sites which it expected to produce "significant profitable growth" in the future.

Smart phones help IQE call up record results
IQE, the computer chip technology company, this morning said that demand for smart phones and tablet computers were likely to have contributed to record sales and profits in 2010. The Cardiff company’s adjusted earnings (EBITDA) grew by more than 56 per cent to at least £12.6m, ahead of market forecasts.

Harris Pye pulls out of Swansea
