Finance guru calls for more bankers
Welsh politicians should put pressure on the banks to move operations to Cardiff, one of the UK’s top finance academics has said. Colyn Gardner, chief executive of Bangor University’s Management Centre, told Insider it was “crazy” that Cardiff had a smaller financial sector than nearby Bristol.

Design2print has designs on Conwy firm
Graphic design and print company Design2print (Llandudno) has acquired a 52 per cent stake in Conwy-based Designbanc. Design2print chief executive Rhys Owen told Insider that Designbanc would relocate to premises on Deganwy Quay.

Corus invests £185m in Port Talbot
Steel producer Corus is to invest £185m in the No 4 Blast Furnace at Port Talbot steelworks. The investment will increase capacity of two blast furnaces there by up to 400,000 tonnes per year.

Freshwater hit by health reforms
Freshwater UK, the public relations company, has suffered a cut in revenues caused by healthcare spending cuts and restructuring. The Cardiff-based group said reforms went against pre-election commitments not to re-organise the health service.

Eversheds cuts jobs
One hundred members of staff at law firm Eversheds are facing redundancy following proposals to outsource roles in finance and human resources. The redundancies, which will affect staff at the company’s offices in Cardiff, Birmingham and Leeds were described by the firm as “regrettable”.

2sys expands into Wales
Information technology company 2sys is expanding into Wales in a move that will create 16 jobs at its base in Technium Springboard, Cwmbran. The company, headquartered in Wiltshire, intends to use this site for a management system it has developed for veterinary practices.

No appeal fees until 2011, if at all, says Davidson
Jane Davidson, the minister for environment, sustainability and housing, has responded to reports that a law introducing charges for planning appeals might be introduced this year. She said such changes could not be put in place until late 2011.

Beacon invests £8m in Caldicot
Beacon Estates, the Monmouthshire-based developer, is investing £8m in building industrial units at the Beacon Business Park near Caldicot. The company aims to attract smaller companies to the scheme.

Ceredigion raises £1.5m with property sale
Ceredigion County Council has raised more than £1.5m from the sale of seven former offices in Aberystwyth town centre. The sale follows the council’s move to new offices next to the National Assembly for Wales building at Llanbadarn Fawr.
