Blues want to stand for atmosphere
Cardiff Blues, the regional rugby side, is considering installing giant banners in front of one of its home stands to create a more intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams. The side shares the 26,800 seat Cardiff City Stadium with Cardiff City FC, but its crowds typically fall far short of capacity. The giant removable banners, which would shield the view of an empty stand, could be paid for through advertising.

Q Chip gets £2m injection
Q Chip, a pharmaceutical technology company based in Cardiff, has raised £2m from investors including Curzon Park Capital and Finance Wales. The cash will be used to adjust its Q-Sphera drug release system to meet manufacturing standards.

Hawtin to sell Millennium Plaza
Hawtin, the property investment company, has put the Millennium Plaza leisure complex in central Cardiff up for sale. Hawtin subsidiary Crown Investments appointed CB Richard Ellis to market the 132,000sq ft building, which includes a Vue cinema.

Ardmore to build Cardiff Bay complex
Bayscape, the development firm headed by Christopher Odling-Smee, has appointed Ardmore Construction to build its hotel, residential and shopping complex in Cardiff Bay.

Griffiths unveils £28m for leadership skills
A £28m investment to provide Welsh business with leadership and management skills will be launched today when Lesley Griffiths, deputy minister for science, innovation and skills, opens the Skillscymru at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. A further £17.5m investment to improve numeracy and literacy will also be announced.

Assembly Govt seeks business voices
The Welsh Assembly Government is seeking private sector representatives to join six panels to advise ministers on the needs of particular industries. The panels match the Assembly Government’s target sectors of creative industries, information and communications technologies; energy and environment; advanced materials and manufacturing; life sciences; and financial and professional services.

Cardigan hospital plans approved
Plans to develop an integrated health and social care facility on the Bath House site in Cardigan have been approved. The £20m development will be funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and replace the existing Cardigan Hospital.

Credit unions get £3.4m funding package
Credit unions in Wales will receive £3.4m worth of funding to support growth and sustainability, the Assembly Government said. The funding, which includes £1.8m from the European Regional Development Fund, will ensure that credit unions can continue to develop financial services that are available to all Welsh citizens over the next three years.
