Moneysupermarket buys online rival
Moneysupermarket.com, the internet comparison site operator, has acquired rival Financial Services Net. Moneysupermarket, which is based in Flintshire, will pay an initial £4.6m, rising to up to £9m depending on performance, for the Coventry-based operator of Financialservices.co.uk. Moneysupermarket said the acquisition would provide “a platform for the group to broaden its brand offering to a wider range of customer segments in the money and insurance (divisions)”.

Atech racing team roars into Wales
Atech Reid, a motor racing team which competes in the sport’s Superleague, has relocated from Silverstone to South Wales. The team, run by Anthony Reid, has set up its operating centre in Treforest near Pontypridd as it prepares for the 2011 Superleague Formula Championship.

Alworths targets 30 Welsh stores
Retail chain Alworths, which has grown out of the ashes of Woolworths, is targeting Wales as part of its ambitious UK expansion plans. Founder and managing director Andy Latham told Insider the company has plans for 25 to 30 stores in Wales as it looks to hit the 200 store mark in the next five years.

Administrator in at Priory Care
Conwy-headquartered care home operator Priory Care has been placed into administration. The company, which operates homes in Wrexham, Mold and Suffolk, employs more than 100 people.

Welsh firms in QualitySolicitors link-up
Law firms including Barry-based J A Hughes and Devonalds in Pontypridd have joined the QualitySolicitors legal brand. Chief executive Craig Holt told Insider the business aims to have a presence in every major UK town and city by October 2011, when the legal services market will be deregulated allowing organisations including banks and supermarkets to offer legal advice.

MedaPhor signs US distribution deal
MedaPhor, the Cardiff University spin-out company, has signed a US distribution agreement for its ultrasound training simulator - ScanTrainer. The Cardiff-based business, owned by university intellectual property (IP) investment company Fusion IP, makes gynaecology training products.

Crusaders go into administration
Welsh rugby league club Celtic Crusaders has entered administration after an application to the High Court by the club's shareholder. Joint administrators from Yorkshire-based O'Hara & Co said they were talking to interested parties about taking the club forward.
