PMG buys Maskreys site for Sainsbury's store
PMG, the property developer run by Cardiff City FC director Paul Guy, has acquired the landmark former Maskreys furniture store site in Cardiff. PMG signed up supermarket group Sainsbury's for the ground floor of the building in Whitchurch Road, and plans to build flats on the floors above.

Quote Exchange looks on Brightside in £3.7m takeover
Cwmbran comparison website business Quote Exchange has been acquired by insurance broking and financial services business Brightside Group in a deal which could eventually be worth £3.7m plus 1.4 million Brightside shares.

Fruitapeel acquires troubled juice maker
Fruitapeel has acquired the assets of Llantrisant-based All Natural Juice Company from the administrator. Fruitapeel, which acquired the former SunJuice facility in Llantrisant in July 2009, plans to take on 25 people, including those made redundant when the company went into administration.

Pelican turnover takes flight
Pelican Healthcare, the Cardiff-based disposable hospital products maker, enjoyed a £3m rise in turnover to £17.7m in the year to March 2010.

Year of contrast for Swansea glass businesses
Vizor Tempered Glass and its sister business Glass Systems experienced contrasting fortunes in the year ended June 2010, according to parent company MC327. The combined efforts of the Swansea-based subsidiaries led to a £800,000 rise in turnover to £14.4m and a 49 per cent increase in pre-tax profit to £1.05m, supported by a profit surge at Glass Systems.

DPP and Curtins coast into contracts
DPP Shape, the regeneration and planning consultancy, and Curtins Consulting, the civil engineer, have won contracts on the North Wales coast. DPP has been appointed by the Welsh Assembly Government and Denbighshire County Council to develop a strategic regeneration framework for Rhyl, while Curtins will work on the £8m Colwyn Bay promenade project.

Jones keen on French and German flights
The Welsh economy would benefit from better air links to France and Spain, deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said this week. Speaking to Insider at the launch of Helvetic Airways’ Cardiff to Zurich route, he said: “In Wales, we have had significant investment from French and German companies, and we would like to encourage that a bit more.”

Wrap to advise manufacturers on recycled inputs
Small and medium manufacturers in Wales will be offered up to £17,000 worth of advice and support on using recycled materials under a scheme run by Wrap (Waste & Resources Action Programme) Cymru. The European Commission-backed Remake project has funds to support up to 30 companies.
