Business pleas for faster, clearer economy plan
The Welsh Assembly Government needs to clarify how its economy plan will work and speed up its thinking on innovation, assembly members have been told. Simon Gibson, chief executive of Wesley Clover, the investment firm chaired by Sir Terry Matthews, said the Welsh economy would be “massacred” unless decisions were made faster. And Roger Evans, chairman of the Welsh Manufacturing Forum, told the National Assembly’s economy committee that the Assembly Government has to spell out how its renewal programme would work.

Brains to brew new beers
SA Brain, the brewery and pub group, hopes to launch one or two new ale brands next year. Chief executive Scott Waddington told Insider that Brains would probably launch a “lighter beer” early in 2010 to take advantage of the growing market for cask ales.

Blues team up with Tesco
Cardiff Blues, the regional rugby side, has joined the supermarket group Tesco's ClubCard scheme. The promotion allows anyone who has collected Tesco ClubCard points to exchange them for tickets to Cardiff Blues homes games.

Tiger Tim profits light up
Tiger Tim Products, the firelighter manufacturer based in Mold, boosted profits for the year to March, despite a drop in turnover. The business posted a pre-tax profit of £1.66m for the year, up from £1m in 2009, based on turnover of £20.2m, which was slightly down from £21m in the previous year.

Vetch demolition wins funding
The Assembly Government is to provide £700,000 towards demolition and landscaping work at the Vetch, Swansea City’s former football ground. The site has been set aside for affordable housing and green space.

Paribas puts forward UWIC homes plan
BNP Paribas Real Estate has submitted plans for a 100 home development on the site of the former University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) management school in Roath, Cardiff, to the city council.

Councils ask to keep rent
Councils in Wales have asked the UK government and the Assembly Government to clear up an apparent anomaly which means that they will have to pay tenants’ rents to the UK Treasury while councils in England can keep rents.
