S4C could share channel if Westminster cuts deep
S4C may invite another broadcaster to fill parts of its schedule if the UK government makes deep cuts in its budget. The Welsh language channel has drawn up its response to two scenarios from the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sport – a 24 per cent budget cut and a 40 per cent cut. Arwel Ellis Owen, S4C’s interim chief executive told Insider that deep cuts would hit the independent production sector hard and prompt a re-think of the channel’s structure.

The chief executive of Enfis, the Swansea-based lighting technology company, has said that it would be better off as part of a larger group. His comments came as AIM-listed Enfis reported wider losses and a 52 per cent drop in revenue for the six months to June.

Park Plaza hopes Ku Ku will attract night owls
Cardiff’s Park Plaza hotel is investing £1.25m to build an upmarket nightclub on a neighbouring site in the city’s Greyfriars Road. The Ku Ku club, designed by Mehrnoosh Khadivi and Gebler Tooth Architects, is scheduled to open in November.

Pamargan positive after a tough year
The economic downturn resulted in redundancies and a drop of more than £1m in the pre-tax profit posted by bonded seal maker Pamargan Products for the year to 31 December 2009. The Newtown company reported pre-tax profit of £200,698, down from £1.4m in 2008, on £5.1m turnover, but it highlighted an improved performance into 2010.

BA Cash & Carry makes more cash
BA Cash & Carry has reported a rise in pre-tax profit to £460,182 for the year to 28 February, up from £282,262 in 2009. The profit rise accompanied a £7m increase in revenue from £92.6m to £99.1m.

Griffiths launches £13m software investment
Software Alliance Wales (SAW), a £13m project designed to boost the growth and competiveness of the digital technology sector in Wales, will be launched today by Lesley Griffiths, deputy minister for science, innovation and skills. The project has a specific focus on software development and is backed with £8m from the European Social Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government.
