Milford Haven mulls new biomass and liner facility
Milford Haven Port Authority is drawing up plans for a new berthing point to serve the biomass, renewable fuel and cruise liner markets. The facility could involve an investment of up to £100m near Blackbridge, just east of Milford Haven itself.

Jojo Maman Bébé nets investment
Nursery and maternity retailer Jojo Maman Bébé has secured an equity investment for a minority stake in the business. Private equity firm Magenta Partners has acquired a stake in the Newport business in a deal brokered by Clearwater Corporate Finance.

Free range and organic egg business Farmhouse Freedom Eggs, based in Usk near Monmouth, has been acquired by egg packaging business Stonegate. The acquisition is intended to strengthen Stonegate's presence in Wales.

Opex profits up despite turnover drop
Opex Exhibition Services posted an increased pre-tax profit of £745,000 for the year to 30 June 2010 despite a £20m drop in revenue to £30.5m. The Newport-based business, which includes Stanco Exhibitions, Expo-Systems, Opex Venue Services and Excel Invision within its portfolio, secured investment from the Octopus Capital for Enterprise Fund during the year.

Investment boosts Klockner sales
Pre-tax profit at rigid plastics manufacturer Klockner Pentaplast slumped by £24m to £4m in the year to 30 September 2010 as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. But sales at the Crumlin, South Wales company increased by £9m to £33m during the period as it reaped the benefit of investment in a PET plastic extrusion line and growth in its PVC business.

North Wales urged to cash in on outdoor boom
North Wales is well-placed to take advantage of the popularity of outdoor activities, according to Tourism Partnership North Wales. The organisation said the sector could potentially create 1,000 new jobs in the region over the next five years.

Council defends Caldicot sale
Monmouthshire Council has clarified the reasons behind the sale of land belonging to Caldicot School to allow the construction of a superstore in the town. The local authority said the move was part of its plan to regenerate the centre of Caldicot, while also upgrading the town’s secondary school.
