£7.5m train upgrade gets on track
A £7.5m upgrade plan for trains used on the Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) mainline service has been announced. The money will come from the Welsh Assembly government and ATW funding. The programme is set to take place over the next 18 months with trains in Arriva's fleet being fully upgraded with new seating, improved toilets, a new information system and enhanced space for wheelchairs and storage.

Wales hotel rooms £54.29-a-night
Hoteliers in Wales are faring poorly when compared with elsewhere in the UK, a new survey has found. Room rates fell 3.7 per cent to £54.29 in May though occupancy was up 1.7 per cent on the same time last year. The figures were revealed by PKF Hotel Consultancy Services.

Celtic Energy fails in High Court bid
The High Court has upheld the Welsh Assembly Government's decision to block Caerphilly-based Celtic Energy from extending opencast mining in Margam. Planning permission had been previously refused by councils in Neath Port Talbot and Bridgend.

Lettings boom in Wales, says Peter Alan
The number of lettings is growing faster than home sales in Wales, according to estate agent Peter Alan. The Cardiff-based business, which has 23 offices in the country, says house sales were up 10 per cent but lettings increased 64 per cent on last year for the first six months to the end of June.
