Call for £2.5bn South Wales metro
South Wales needs a metro-style transport network of trams, trains and fast buses to encourage investment and make it easier for workers to commute, a report out today says. The Institute of Welsh Affairs and Cardiff Business Partnership says its £2.5bn scheme would cut maximum journey times from the Valleys into Cardiff to 40 minutes, and reduce top waiting times in the city centre to five minutes.

Western Valleys share regeneration funds
The Welsh Assembly Government is to fund regeneration projects in six town centres in the Western Valleys. Cross Hands, Ammanford, Pontardawe, Ystradgynlais, Neath and Maesteg will share the funding for improving transport; enhancing public spaces and parks; purchasing disused sites and empty properties; and improving facilities.
