Government’s loan explanation doesn’t stack up, says councillor
Business secretary Vince Cable's pledge to re-examine a recently-axed £80m government loan to Sheffield Forgemasters later in the year has been welcomed. But, ahead of an extraordinary meeting of Sheffield Council today, Sheffield Councillor Bryan Lodge told Insider that the government is still not doing enough and rejected claims that the loan is unaffordable. The Labour man has called for the meeting to discuss his motion that the city authority "deplores the decision of this government to cancel an £80m loan to Forgemasters".

Building contractor J Pullan & Sons has acquired four units for £2.26m. Totalling approximately 63,000 sq ft, the Rotherham property is let to three tenants by way of four leases and represents a net initial yield of 11.52 per cent.

William Hill move condemned by union
Betting staff union Community Union has described William Hill’s decision to relocate its telephone betting operation from Yorkshire to Gibraltar as a "shameless move from a heartless corporation". William Hill has entered a period of consultation with its 400 staff in the region, after it confirmed the Leeds site is to be shut and the Sheffield facility outsourced. It says all staff affected by the changes will be offered alternative positions within the company.

The Sheffield office of law firm Nabarro has recruited Ben Marshall as an associate in its team, primarily working for the Medical Defence Union. Marshall, who joins from Halliwells, specialises in healthcare litigation with previous experience from Reynolds Porter Chamberlain, DLA and Brodies.

Lord Kirkham agrees Ebor Court lease
Lord Kirkham, the founder of DFS, has become the latest occupier at Wilton Developments’ Ebor Court scheme in Doncaster. Kirkham, who sold his stake in DFS to private equity firm Advent International in April, has agreed a ten-year lease and will use the 3,725 sq ft premises to conduct his other business affairs and his charity work.

Retail sector at risk from legislation change
