Renewable sector primed for growth - Luen
The renewable energy sector has "enormous potential for growth" in Yorkshire, according to Paul Luen, the chief executive of Rotherham-based Martek Marine, who told Insider this potential was illustrated by substantial government backing. Together with a Dragons Den-style panel of experts, Luen will be providing advice to budding "ecopreneurs" of the future.

Investment sparks new range launch at VC
Rotherham-based electrical engineering business VC Electronics has secured a £25,000 business loan from Finance Yorkshire. VC will use the funding to complete a three-year business plan and launch a range of architectural dimming systems for the lighting market.

Brewery plans to hop into Yorkshire
Purity Brewing is eyeing expansion into Yorkshire after receiving planning permission for a new 5,000 sq ft brew house. Paul Halsey, the managing director of the Midlands brewery, told Insider the new development was the beginning of a growth process and the company would soon be expanding into Leeds, Sheffield and York.

Southampton joins trials of clean fuel technology
Southampton City Council has become the third local authority to sign up to take part in trials of hydrogen-powered vehicles. The scheme will be run by Sheffield-headquartered ITM Power.

Championship football club Sheffield United have teamed up with Rotherham-based recruitment business Kalcrest to operate Sheffield United Recruitment Services. It is hoped the partnership between United and Kalcrest will link football fans with businesses and potential jobs while also supporting the club’s business enterprise.

Henry Boot teams up with Morrisons for SW project
Hallam Land Management, the strategic land arm of Sheffield-based developer Henry Boot, has joined forces with Morrisons and Barratt Developments to invest in a mixed-use regeneration scheme in Bridgwater, Somerset. Hallam has secured planning permission for up to 1.2 million sq ft of employment floorspace at the North East Bridgwater project.
