Gall to take MedaPhor to market
University intellectual property (IP) investment business Fusion IP, based in Sheffield, has invested £140,000 in gynaecology training products manufacturer MedaPhor, a Cardiff University spin-out company. Stuart Gall, one of the founders and commercial director at Fusion, told Insider that the MedaPhor investment was “an example of exactly what Fusion do”. Gall added: “When we start a business up we put money in primarily and people where appropriate. MedaPhor is taking its product to market, so I have gone in to become the CEO of that business for its launch period to use my skills in sales and marketing.” Fusion has reported several recent investments adding to its growing portfolio with spin-out companies Seren Photonics and Mesuro from the University of Sheffield and Cardiff University respectively, as Gall explained: “We have ten-year agreements with both universities that gives us access to their IP. Any we think has the potential to be turned into a business, we have the right to ask for the IP and transfer it into a company. The universities have a big shareholding in Fusion. It’s in their interests to make it work and we’re there to make it work for them.” In other Fusion news, University of Sheffield spin-out company Seren Photonics has appointed Dr Godfrey Ainsworth as chairman.
