New stadium will be flagship for Rotherham
Rotherham United’s proposed new stadium will bring commercial benefits to the club and act as a flagship for the regeneration of the town. Chief operating officer Paul Douglas told Insider that with a planning application submitted, fans hopefully would not have to wait much longer before the bulldozers moved in.

Profits tumble at Severfield-Rowen
Severfield-Rowen has reported a 66.7 per cent year-on-year fall in profits. The structural steel engineering company, based in Thirsk, posted pre-tax profit of £8.2m for the six months to 30 June 2010, down from £24.6m in the same period last year.

Sheffield United signs up with 188BET
Sheffield United FC has reached an agreement with 188BET for the online gaming company to become the club’s official betting partner. The agreement is 188BET’s first with a Yorkshire club and Sheffield United joins Chelsea, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Everton, Bolton and Wigan Athletic as official betting partners of the online sportsbook provider.

Sheffield Star owner reports profit
Johnston Press, the media group which owns the Sheffield Star, has reported pre-tax profit of £26.1m for the six months to 3 July, up from its £93.6m loss for the same period last year. Revenue at the business, which also owns the Yorkshire Evening Post and Sheffield Star, was reported as £207.3m - down from £218.6m in 2009.

UK Coal reports £93.2m loss
Doncaster-based UK Coal has reported a pre-tax loss of £93.2m for the six months to 26 June 2010, based on reduced sales of £141.3m. The business had anticipated a reduced operating loss in a trading update to the Stock Exchange last month, when it emphasised it was prioritising its “safety culture”.

SIG posts first half loss
SIG, the pan-European supplier of insulation and specialist construction products based in Sheffield, has posted sales of £1.29bn for the six months to 30 June 2010, as predicted in its trading update to the Stock Exchange last month. The company also reported a pre-tax loss of £2.2m, reduced from its £9.2m loss in the first half of 2009.

Sheffield firms launch joint venture
Sheffield law firm Ashton Morton Slack (AMS) has launched Northchurch Financial Services in a joint venture with Burley Financial Services. Legal firms had previously been prevented by law from providing their clients with financial advice.

Housebuilders seek new sites, but remain wary - DTZ
Housebuilders are actively seeking new sites, although they are looking to acquire them at today’s prices. That’s according to Phil Roebuck, a director in property consultancy DTZ’s Leeds real estate team, who told Insider that statements accompanying the recent results of Persimmon and Bovis reflected a cautious optimism that the market is improving.
