BBC move may drain creative talent from Yorkshire
Yorkshire’s creative industries could be threatened by the BBC’s arrival at MediaCity in Salford with a possible exodus of talent across the Pennines, it is claimed. Speaking at Insider’s Business of Media Summit, investor and entrepreneur Philip Coen said industry professionals in a catchment area stretching to Newcastle and Carlisle would be attracted to the development.

Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food cooks on
Rotherham’s Ministry of Food, the healthy eating scheme introduced by TV chef Jamie Oliver and praised for its impact on the eating habits of people from the town, has been saved from closure. The project’s annual budget of £130,000 was threatened by public sector cuts, but Rotherham Borough Council has now pledged to maintain it.

Beatson Clark spreads preserves relationship
Glass packaging manufacturer Beatson Clark has been chosen by preserves supplier Mackays to supply its round 41ml glass preserve jar. Beatson Clark, which has distribution centres in Rotherham and Barnsley, already produces glass containers for most of Mackays' range.

Businesses in the north are twice as likely to be in debt compared with rivals in southern England, according to new research carried out by The Mackman Group on behalf of corporate finance firm Leoni Sceti Group.

MADE Festival in Sheffield marked the city out as a destination for entrepreneurs, according to former BBC Dragons' Den star Doug Richard. The festival, held earlier this month, attracted 500 people to the region and featured the opening of Yorkshire and Humber's first National Enterprise Academy by current Dragons' Den investor Peter Jones.

Yorkshire employment figures rise
The number of people in employment increased by 9,000 in the last quarter, according to labour market statistics from the Office of National Statistics. The region’s employment rate rose to 69.3 per cent, with an extra 24,000 in employment compared to the previous year.
