Final YES! for Rother Valley leisure site
The developers behind the YES! Project could be on site by the end of the year after signing the development agreement with Rotherham Council. Oak Holdings chief executive Steve Lewis told Insider the developer can now cement its financing and that the £390m project can now get moving. At the moment we have the concept design and we will be taking that to the next stage, he said. We will be taking the tenant interest we already have and converting that into substantial proposals as well as attracting other tenants. Oak already has memoranda of understanding with BT and E.ON, Baydrive Golf, extreme-sports company Venture Xtreme and the Sheffield Steelers ice hockey team. The developer and council hope the project will be complete by 2012 because it will have an Olympic-scale white-water kayaking course. Rother Valley Country Park, where it will be based, is on the list of potential 2012 training bases.

Sheffield and Leeds need better brands
Sheffield and Leeds are lagging behind in branding, despite having more to offer than places such as Liverpool, which has a better brand, a report by Saffron Brand Consultants has claimed. The report said regional centres with similar scores for attributes, such as Leeds, Sheffield and Liverpool, vary widely in their ability to promote themselves. Liverpool has a much stronger brand than its Yorkshire counterparts, despite the fact they have slightly more assets. Bradford came last in the ranking of 72 European cities on both brand and asset strength. Saffrons head of place branding, Jeremy Hildreth, said: Liverpool wants to be a hip city and has a plan to achieve it. Leeds and Sheffield have similar brand potential but its yet to be developed in a coordinated way.
