Back up manufacturing rhetoric with action - Speirs
The Master Cutler Bill Speirs has called on government to back up its promise to invest in manufacturing with action that will allow the industry to move forward. Speirs was part of a delegation of South Yorkshire business leaders that attended the London launch of The Global Manufacturing Festival and he told Insider "Sheffield is a hub of manufacturing but we need to tell the world".

Boardwalk business calls in administrators
Cougar Leisure, the business behind legendary Sheffield live music venue the Boardwalk, has gone into administration. The Boardwalk has hosted gigs by artists including the Sex Pistols, Joe Cocker and the Clash during a history spanning more than 30 years.

Fewer business failures in Yorkshire
Fewer businesses went bust in the Yorkshire and the Humber in 2010 than during the previous year, according to figures from information business Equifax. There were year-on-year falls in each quarter for the region though there was a sharp quarter-on-quarter rise for the last three months of the year.

Inflation rises again
Inflation has surged to its highest level since April. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose to 3.7 per cent in December, official figures have revealed. Leading economists had only expected it to rise to 3.4 per cent.
