Splash insistent: We will make Park Hill work

Park Hill developer Urban Splash has told Insider it is confident of making a success of the much-talked about scheme. Splash is looking to fully redevelop the landmark “streets in the sky” deck-access council flats scheme, once a source of pride for Sheffield that became a byword for neglect after its 1960s heyday.

Asda loses market share as sales slow
Like-for-like sales at Asda fell by 0.4 per cent for the second quarter of 2010, although US parent company Wal-Mart said the Yorkshire supermarket chain was making good progress toward its strategic goals. Kantar Worldpanel, which tracks the performance of supermarkets, said Asda’s market share had dropped while rivals Morrisons and Sainsbury’s market share had increased.

Sheffield-based GO Outdoors has appointed John Lovering as chairman. Lovering is a former chairman of Debenhams, Somerfield, Homebase and Peacocks.

Ratcliffe replaced by Kelly at RBS
The Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest have appointed a new managing director for its business and commercial banking division in the north. Tony Kelly, previously head of business & commercial banking for RBS and NatWest in Yorkshire and the North East, will replace Bill Ratcliffe who is retiring after 34 years’ service.

Quba, the Sheffield-based digital marketing agency, has created a new website for Bradford-based hospital equipment business Park House Healthcare. The new site features an interactive regional map and improved navigation to ehelp users to locate services and products.

Forgemasters wins £5m Russian contract
Sheffield Forgemasters has won a £5m contract to provide steel rolls to Russian company Severstal. Under the contract, Forgemasters will provide 186 work rolls and 14 back-up rolls.

Highlander launches IT scheme for start-ups
Highlander IT and Telecoms Solutions has launched a "FIT for Business" scheme aimed at providing free technical support to South Yorkshire start-ups. The Sheffield-based company’s offer extends to any business that has been trading for less than a year.

Parlous state of Rotherham retail earns rate reduction
Colliers International has secured a 10 per cent reduction in rateable value on behalf of some Rotherham retailers, including the Co-operative Group. It was granted following a ruling by the Valuation Tribunal Service that reflects the impact of retail closures on the town centre.

IPD reports full year of capital growth for UK property
The commercial property market has completed a full year of positive capital growth, according to research body IPD’s UK Monthly Index for July. The report says markets have risen by 15.4 per cent since August 2009. But in July, the market returned just 0.2 per cent capital growth - matching the figure which kick-started the recovery at the end of last summer.
